The municipality of Zwijndrecht (NL) had been planning for years to install a road salt silo at the municipal depot on Middellijn in Zwijndrecht. The Building Control Department set out a set of requirements, as the silo was to be situated in a highly visible location.
M.I.P. was approached for its expertise regarding the design options for the silo and the Building Control Department’s requirements. Following several brainstorming sessions with the council and the Building Control Department, a plan was eventually drawn up, which, with a few adjustments, was finally implemented in 2019.
The result is a magnificent structure, comprising a 140m³ road-salt silo – with a diameter of 4,000mm – mounted on a trestle frame and clad on all sides with expanded metal. This has created an open structure, as you can see the horizon and the silo through it. A platform has been installed on top of the silo, offering a breathtaking view of the surrounding area.
