The thermal conductivity of glass-fibre-reinforced composite is considerably lower than that of steel (factor 450) and stainless steel (factor 300). As a result, composite inherently offers much better insulating properties than both steel and stainless steel.
35% higher insulation value
M.I.P. uses rigid PUR foam or PET foam panels to insulate storage tanks. At the same thickness, these panels provide a 35% higher insulation value. The insulation panels are covered with a 5–6 mm thick layer of glass-fibre-reinforced composite. This layer is applied by machine in the factory and finished with a UV- and weather-resistant topcoat. This creates a liquid-tight outer surface, which prevents water ingress and maintains the insulation value.
No more corrosion problems
Furthermore, glass-fibre-reinforced composite offers an additional advantage: no more corrosion problems beneath the insulation. This makes our solution not only more efficient, but also more sustainable and easier to maintain.
