The preparation of brine in gritting in Europe is growing every year. Rightly so because brine has a number of unmistakable advantages over spreading salt:
- Brine adheres far more easily to the road surface than spreading salt, so that brine achieves a thawing effect more rapidly and effectively.
- It is environmentally friendly since less salt is used per metre of road surface. (Brine consists of 3/4 water).
- Work more quickly; a gritter can drive at 40 km/h with salt, at 70 km/h with brine.
- It is less costly because 20% less salt is used.
